Mister Mulligan

Balsa wood model airplane kit by Dumas with over 70 laser-cut parts. The Howard DGA-6 was a pioneer racing plane, nicknamed Mister Mulligan. It was the only airplane ever designed for the specific purpose of winning the Bendix Trophy, a cross-country race from the west coast to the site of the National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio. Mister Mulligan flew in the 30 Aug. 1935 Bendix and won with a speed of 238.70 m.p.h. Mitsubishi Zero

Streaking out of the western skies in the early hours of Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese Zero-Sen launched the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that plunged the United States into World War 2. For a time, the Zero appeared nearly invincible in combat and it was not until the Battle of Midway that its fortunes declined along with that of the Japanese empire. Now with laser-cut balsa parts. The Japanese Navy ordered the NAKAJIMA A6M2-N seaplane an adaptation of the Mitsubishi Zero-fighter plane, in early 1940. The first delivery was made in December 1941 and a total of 320 were built before production ceased in 1943. It was named the "Rufe" by the Allies and served in both the north and south Pacific theatres from the Aleutian Islands to the Solomon’s. Its role was more defensive than offensive although it was well armed with two wing-mounted cannon and two machine guns in the top front of the engine cowling. Wing Span: 16½" Scale: 1/32 Min. North American B-25 Mitchell

The B-25 Mitchell was one of the most outstanding medium bombers of World War 2. Conceived in mid-1939, the first production model flew in August 1940 and the first operational success was scored on December 24, 1941 with the destruction of the Japanese submarine. In April 1942, 16 B-25’s made a historic raid on Tokyo operating from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet under the command of General Doolittle- a raid that did little damage, but gave the U.S. a psychological lift during the early days of the Pacific Ocean hostilities. During the war years, the RAF, the Soviet Union, China Union, Brazil and the Netherlands also used the B-25. The “H” version with 16 guns and a 75mm cannon was the most lethal twin-engine bomber of World War 2. Wing Span: 28" Scale: 1/32 Min. Age: 14.

The North American P-51D Mustang was probably the best all-around single seat piston-engine fighter to be used in World War 2. The T-28 was the first post war advanced trainer produced in quantity for training pilots for high-speed jet aircraft. Nearly 2000 of these fine trainers where built before production was ended in 1957. With advent of the war in South Vietnam, the T-28 was given a new lease on life when it proved to be effective “COIN’ or counter insurgency aircraft against enemy forces operating in the dense tropical jungle. Balsa wood model airplane kit by Dumas. The Bell P-39 Airacobra was one of the principal American fighter aircraft in service when the United States entered World War II. It was the first fighter in history with a tricycle undercarriage and the first to have the engine installed in the center fuselage, behind the pilot. Although its mid-engine placement was innovative, the P-39 design was handicapped by the absence of an efficient turbo-supercharger, limiting it to low-altitude work. P-40 Warhawk

The P-40 earned undying fame as the "Flying Tiger" of World War 2 when flown by General Claire Chennault's Volunteer Group fighting the Japanese in China and Burma. It also saw much service in the Middle East where it was used by Britain's R.A.F. and nicknamed the Tomahawk and Kittyhawk. When World War 2 broke out, the P-40 was the only fighter available in quantity to the U.S.A.A.F., it being the first American single-seat plane to be manufactured in the U.S. on a mass production basis. By the end of the war, over 14,000 planes had been delivered to fighting theatres. Republic Aviation's P-47 Thunderbolt, also known as the "Jug", was the largest, heaviest, and most expensive fighter aircraft in history to be powered by a single reciprocating engine.[2] It was heavily armed with eight .50-caliber machine guns, four per wing. The P-47, based on the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, was to be very effective as a short-to-medium range escort fighter in high-altitude air-to-air combat and when unleashed as a fighter-bomber, proved especially adept at ground attack in both the WW-II European and Pacific Theaters.
